CULTURAL GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS Filipino Community: The Filipino community strives to foster love, cooperation, and solidarity among the members of the Filipino community, and to preserve Filipino religious traditions, culture, and moral values. It helps in fund-raising campaigns for St. Justin Martyr Parish and School, and extends moral, physical, spiritual, and financial support to the needy. It strives to strengthen the faith and devotion to the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many members attend the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help every Wednesday evening at St. Justin's. Filipino cultural and dance classes are offered each summer. In January they have a celebration for the Holy Infant Jesus. During May they have the "Flores de Mayo", which features a Marian Rosary and May Crowning, and in November they present a celebration of thanksgiving, called "Araw ng Pasasalamat". The Filipino community organizes the "Simbang Gabi" Advent Masses which are celebrated on the ten days preceding Christmas. The Filipino food booth is always one of the most successful booths at the annual Parish Festival. Hispanic Community of Mision del Sagrado Corazon: Sacred Heart Mission is a small mission church, established in 1926, and is within the boundaries of St. Justin Martyr Parish. Although Sunday and Holy Day Spanish Masses and confessions are said at St. Justin Martyr Church, marriages, baptisms, and weekday liturgies are held at the Mission. The staff of Mision del Sagrado Corazon ministers to the spiritual and sacramental needs of the Hispanic Catholic community. Religious education classes, a Bible study group, and several choirs are organized through the Mission and its office, located at 10852 Harcourt Avenue in Anaheim. For information, call 714-821-3133. Orange County Chinese Catholic Association: The Chinese Catholics and others in Orange County are served by the Orange County Chinese Catholic Association (O.C.C.C.A.). This group provides the opportunity to promote unity and community spirit, and offers a youth group, choir and senior citizens group. It plans and sponsors major holiday activities and provides Bible study in three locations. It also is affiliated with the Sheng-Shing Chinese School, which meets weekly at St. Justin Martyr Parish and provides a Catholic and Chinese cultural education to children and adults. A Mass is said in Chinese on the second Sunday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at St. Justin Martyr Church. The Chinese community runs the Chinese food booth at the annual Parish Festival. Tongan Community: The Tongan community strives to preserve religious, cultural, and moral values within the Tongan Catholics in our parish and community by fostering love, cooperation, and solidarity. The Tongan group has organized weekly activities in the parish and in homes, including religious education, youth group, choir, womens craft group, and a rosary group. Priests from Tonga visit St. Justin's periodically. The Tongan community assists the parish with various projects, and runs a Tongan food booth at the annual Parish Festival. |
