LITURGICAL MINISTRIES Altar Servers: Altar Servers are adults, girls, and boys (grade 5 and up) who assist the celebrant at the altar throughout the week during ceremonies such as the celebration of Masses, weddings, and funerals. Training is provided for those interested. Cantors: Cantors lead the congregation in song during our Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. They work with the pianist or organist to prepare the proper liturgical music for the day which will enhance the liturgy and enable the congregation to participate more fully at Mass. Choirs:
Eucharistic Ministers: Eucharistic Ministers are women and men who assist in administering the Holy Eucharist during Mass. The ministers are trained in the proper and reverend handling and distribution of the body and blood of Christ. Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick: The Eucharist is brought to the sick, elderly, and home-bound parishioners by the Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick. These women and men bring comfort to the sick and dying by bringing to them the Body of Christ, and extending the community celebration of the Eucharist from the church to their homes. For more information contact the Pastoral Services Office at 714-774-2595. Greeters: The Greeters are women and men who help create a welcoming spirit at the parish by greeting and welcoming parishioners and guests as they enter the church for Saturday evening and Sunday Mass. For information on becoming a greeter, contact the Pastoral Services Office at 714-774-2595. Lectors: The Lectors are women and men who assist the celebrant in announcing and bringing the word of God to all those present at Mass. Training for new lectors is held periodically. Liturgy Committee: Under the direction of a priest, the Liturgy Committee consists of representatives from the Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, RCIA, Environment, Music, Ushers, and parishioners at large. They meet to learn about, discuss, and plan various aspects of liturgies at St. Justin Martyr Church. Music: Music and singing at a Mass helps enable the congregation to participate more fully at the liturgy. The piano, organ, or guitar is played at the Saturday night and Sunday liturgies. Other musical instruments are played for some special Masses. Ushers: The ushers help priests and parishioners at Mass by aiding in preparing the church for Mass, greeting and seating people as they arrive, taking up collections, facilitating the reception of the Holy Eucharist, distributing any literature as needed, and closing up the church after Mass if needed. These women and men also assist in case of emergencies and help ensure the sanctity and dignity of church services. |
